Casket Burials
Casket burials have been the traditional burial choice this past century but are becoming less common. Casket burials are often expensive, and utilize more resources than other burial types. Yet, for a traditional, elegant burial, a Casket burial is often the option many people choose.
Facts and Resources about Casket Burials and BUCA:
- Location: In all of our cemeteries you can choose a casket burial. Currently burials can take place in all 4 cemeteries, but only Center Cemetery and Trow Cemetery are selling new graves.
- Cost: Casket burials are usually the most expensive burial choice. Costs include the casket and funeral home services, the preparation for the burial and the burial itself. All burials also have additional costs for the headstone/gravestone, the vault, and other funeral related expenses. Casket burials also require one grave, whereas cremation usually allows for three burials in one plot.
- Environmental effects: Caskets place hazardous materials in the soil and inhibit decomposition. About 4 million gallons of embalming fluid, 64,500 tons of steel, 2,700 tons of copper and bronze, 20-plus million board feet of hardwoods, and 1.6 million tons of reinforced concrete are buried in the US. *Sometimes less hazardous materials can be utilized. o
