About Us
History
The Buckland Union Cemetery Association (BUCA), Inc., has been established for the purpose of maintaining and preserving the following cemeteries in Buckland, Franklin County, Massachusetts: Trow Cemetery and Taylor Cemetery on Charlemont Road; Center Cemetery on Upper Street; and Upper City Cemetery on Cemetery Road.
Our beautiful cemeteries were founded in 1850, with some burials in the town owned cemetery prior to that time. It is our duty to lovingly care for these sacred grounds, and to honor our town’s history and remember the people who have chosen us as their final resting place. The Buckland Union Cemetery Association, Inc., is a non-profit, tax exempt 501c (13) organization that is governed by a board of directors. Our committment to the loved ones of those interred in the cemeteries is to beautifully maintain a these sacred spaces and to plan for a sustainable future that will last forevermore.
The general care of the cemeteries is the responsibility of the board of directors and includes cutting the grass throughout the summer and raking and cleaning the grounds in the spring and fall. Restoration and repair of monuments is doen when the association has funds to do so. Many families cover the costs of restoration and repair because most of our earnings and fundraising goes to maintaining the cemeteries.
